Bridge 202MSL Waikouaiti - Kiwi Rail

Smith Crane and Construction were engaged by KiwiRail to carry out an emergency repair on the damage that occurred from flooding in July 2022. This led to a repair of the first 40 meters of the bridge with the addition of a bridge extension. The new pile and pier caps were installed under rail protection on live rail until ready for the bridge changeover. This Block of Line consisted of the following work carried out in just 36 hours; removal and relocation of 4 x 10-meter steel bridge girders from existing timber piers to new precast piers and installation of new 5m steel bridge girder, installation of new 30 Tonne precast abutment, excavation and construction of new approach track formation.

Block of Line work is always challenging given the fast-paced environment, but the SCC team led by Matt Draper has successfully delivered another project. Great effort from the Silver team to get this job done.
