The Civil Engineering division at Smith Crane and Construction have undertaken all forms of piling and foundations.

Bridges and Structures
One of New Zealand’s most experienced rail bridge construction company.
The company has built over 100 rail way bridges in recent years and has undertaken a number of emergency repairs throughout New Zealand making Smith Crane and Construction one of New Zealand's most experienced rail bridge construction companies. This continues our long standing working relationship with Kiwirail and its predecessors dating back to the 1970s. Our team understands that jobs like these require efficient working, we are well experienced in successfully completing large civil work under block of line parameters.

Demolition Work
Smith Crane and construction has been involved with numerous demolition projects following the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011, specialising in deconstruction involving cut and crane techniques.
Some of the major projects that have been successfully completed include the demolition of the 67 meter chimney at Christchurch Hospital, the 18-storey Clarendon Tower Office block on Oxford Terrace involving five months of strengthening to make it safe and stable before it could be safely demolished and the demolition of the southern blood testing laboratory which was a bio hazard contaminated site where the demolition crew were able to retrieve and multi million dollar specialist blood analyser.
The civil division of Smith Crane and Construction takes pride in their work and understands the health and safety processes involved with demolishing a building; ensuring safety is top priority from start to end.

Smith Crane and Construction own and operate the Joe Mann Tug and the 32 m x 11m Vulcan flat top construction barge, capable of Carrying an 80 Tonne Crawler crane along with a bolt together pontoon system the can be arranged in multiple configurations enabling demolition, maintenance and construction works from the water.
