Our Family Business
Smith Crane and Construction is proud to be a multi generational family business. Smith Crane and Construction traces it’s roots back to John C Smith Contractors founded by Tim’s Father. John C Smith Contractors worked on many civil projects such as the Otira Viaduct in Canterbury. Smith Crane & Construction is proud to continue the family tradition of excellence in the provision of crane hire, piling, civil construction and heavy haulage services.
Formed by Tim Smith in 1992
Tim comes from a construction family background and is a qualified diesel mechanic. In 1992 Tim formed Smith Crane and Construction Ltd. It’s been quite the journey over the last 30 years since, Tim started with just one Kato crane – NK20b and a passion for getting the job done. Fast forward 30 years and SCC has over 180 cranes, a total of over 700 plant items, and 300 great members of the Silver Smith Team.
Our Office
In 1997 we relocated to our 12 hectare premises at 484 Johns Road Harewood, Christchurch where we have continued steady growth, consolidating a reputation for delivery of professional services to the highest quality, and growing our great team. We also have offices in Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Invercargill.
