Project of the Year 2024: Manawatu Tararua Highway

We’re proud to celebrate the Te Ahu a Turanga Project, winner of the Project of the Year at the 2024 Crane Awards! This project, led by the Te Ahu a Turanga Alliance, tackled complex technical challenges and delivered vital infrastructure to the region.

Smith Cranes was proud to partner with HEB Construction & Fulton Hogan on this project involving up to 7 cranes on site.

Situated between Manawatu and Tararua, this project involved constructing two major bridges and multiple structures, all while navigating restricted access points, complex river crossings, and challenging terrain. It’s a testament to the exceptional skill, innovation, and collaboration of the entire team—from planning and engineering to the skilled crane operations on the ground.

Project alliance partners: Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, HEB Construction, Fulton Hogan, Smith Crane & Construction, Aurecon, WSP, Rangitāne o Manawatū, Rangitāne o Tamaki nui-a-Rua, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki nui-a-Rua, Te Runanga o Raukawa (Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga and Nga Kaitiaki ō Ngāti Kauwhata).
