Favco M860D Dismantle
It’s time for our award winning Favco M860D (96t) Luffing Tower Crane to be dismantled and onto the next project!
Our Favco M860D has been based at the Kaitoke Bridge project since August 2022, when we used our Manitowoc M11000 Crawler Crane to lift the tower crane sections and assemble it. This assembly on site was a challenging one with the access roads being incredibly narrow, and the bridges were 3.3m wide, one with a 52T maximum weight limit. To enable the delivery of the crane cab and slew ring , we used special transport trucks that had the ability to lift the entire load above the bridge to enable the trucks to travel over them. After successfully assembling the Tower Crane the team got to work on the Kaitoke Flume Pipe Bridge.
Chris Thompson has been operating this crane lifting the 24 ton, 52-Meter-long steel arch bridge to its new home over the Te Awa Kairangi – Hutt River. This bridge supports a 1.5m diameter ductile iron pipe that will transport up to 140 million liters of drinking water a day for Wellington and wider regions. This pipe was designed in Japan and is the largest of its kind in New Zealand. This project is set to be completed in 2025 and we are proud to have taken part in making this water infrastructure project possible.
This tricky crane dismantlement wouldn’t have been possible without our talented crane crew; Jason Bourke, Kayden Bourke, Barry Meiring, Jerson Bacayo. Paul Critcher operating the assisting 40t Franna Crane, Johnny Smith operating the LTR1100 Telescopic Crawler Crane , Trailer Pilot Matt Hill, and our Transport Crew; Tim Harris, Ben Duckworth, Dan Mudgeway, Ed Watkins, Jimmy Wilson, John Tavendale and Reynaldo Biares.
